A-State

Advising tool

Find the A-State major that fits you

Choosing the wrong major is the most common reason international students lose a year. This tool starts with you — interests, strong subjects, goals — and only then matches you against the university’s 150+ programs.

How the tool works

  1. 1

    Answer six questions (3 minutes)

Favourite field, strongest high-school subjects, the kind of work you want, degree level, budget and whether you plan to work in the US after graduation.

  2. 2

    Get three suggested majors instantly

The tool matches your answers against A-State’s program catalogue and returns the three best fits, with college, degree level and STEM flag.

  3. 3

An advisor replies within 1–2 working days

Our admissions team reviews your answers, checks entry requirements and scholarships, and emails a detailed pathway (or sends it via Zalo).

Three rules for choosing a major in the US

1

Choose by your strongest subjects, not just the "hot" major. A student strong in Biology and Chemistry goes further in Biology or Nursing than in Computer Science chosen only for salary. First-year GPA decides whether scholarships renew (you must keep the GPA required by the award).

2

Look at OPT and STEM if you plan to work in the US. STEM majors give 36 months of OPT instead of 12 — a big difference for H-1B chances. Several quantitative business majors (Business Analytics, Information Systems) are STEM too.

3

Use the first one or two semesters to test your choice. The US system lets you switch majors within a college with almost no lost time. Do not choose under pressure to be perfect on day one — pick a "good enough" major and adjust after trying introductory courses.

Frequently asked questions

Is the suggestion an admission decision?

No. This is a guidance tool. Admission to a program depends on your formal application (GPA, English, program-specific requirements) reviewed by A-State.

I am in grade 11 — should I use this now?

Yes. Knowing your direction early helps you choose subjects, extracurriculars and English preparation with a clear target from grade 11, instead of rushing in grade 12.

I already hold a bachelor’s degree from Vietnam. Does the tool cover master’s programs?

Yes. Select "Graduate" as your degree level — suggestions will focus on master’s, doctoral programs and Graduate Assistantship opportunities.

What if I want a major that is not suggested?

Write the major in the notes field. An advisor will check whether A-State offers it, the entry requirements, and the closest alternative if it does not.

Is there a fee?

None. Our admissions team is A-State’s official representative and charges no service fee to students or parents.

Prefer to talk instead of filling a form?

Call the hotline or book a 1-on-1 session — an advisor will review majors, requirements and scholarships with you in 30 minutes.
