In order to attract and retain the most talented and outstanding international students, A-State offers competitive scholarships aimed at international students enrolled in Undergraduate and Graduate programs.
OVERVIEW
Current financial aid levels include merit-based scholarships awarded based on academic performance and potential for continued study at A-State. We also offer talent-based scholarships for undergraduate students, which require scholarship recipients to make certain contributions to the university during the period the scholarship is awarded. Talent-based scholarships include athletic scholarships, band scholarships, vocal scholarships, and theatre scholarships. All talent-based scholarships require applicants to attend an audition/tryout and submit supporting evidence of their achievements. Athletic scholarships are awarded quite strictly, in accordance with NCAA Division I regulations.
In addition, Vietnamese students who apply through the Vietnam Office will receive a 50% reduction in tuition, equivalent to in-state tuition. Contact the office for guidance.
In most cases, scholarships are awarded based on the student's full-time enrollment status at A-State, academic performance, extracurricular contributions to the university, along with certain terms specified in the regulations. International students are not eligible for talent-based scholarships until they have demonstrated their ability in accordance with University regulations. Academic scholarship amounts for international students are fixed and deducted from tuition; talent-based scholarships include deductions for tuition as well as room and board, and other expenses (determined by the university's funding area, service needs, the student's level of achievement, and the student's ability to pay). Scholarships provided by the university will not exceed the cost of attendance at A-State for international students under any circumstances, and cannot be transferred to any other university or organization. Students who receive a tuition waiver letter from A-State are not eligible for scholarships.
In addition to traditional scholarships, A-State offers a number of scholarships for international students; however, these scholarships are not available to international students until they have demonstrated English proficiency and have studied at A-State for at least one semester. After arriving at A-State, international students will receive detailed information about university and foundation scholarship opportunities from the Office of International Programs (OIP), possibly during the international student orientation session. Compared to American students, scholarship opportunities for international students are highly competitive, but fair to all students at or after the time of application. However, regardless of potential scholarships, international students should plan ahead and have sufficient financial resources to cover the cost of studying at the university.
ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS
Academic scholarships at Arkansas State University are available to international students enrolled in Bachelor's degree programs; similar research scholarships are available to students in Graduate programs. All academic scholarships are awarded annually, with 50% of the scholarship value awarded at the start of each semester, and a portion of the scholarship awarded in the second semester after the student achieves good academic standing in the first semester, after which it continues to be renewed based on academic performance in subsequent semesters. A-State defines sufficient achievement to receive a scholarship at the undergraduate level as completing a full-time course load (minimum 12 credit hours) with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. For graduate programs, students must complete a full-time course load (minimum 9 credit hours) and achieve a GPA of 3.75 or higher. Scholarships will be renewed based on the above standards and available funding. Students who fall below the standard in any semester will not receive the scholarship and may not be eligible to reapply. There is no scholarship or financial aid available for international students during the Summer term.
GRADUATE RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIPS
Graduate research scholarships are awarded based on prior academic performance (undergraduate GPA greater than 3.5) and potential for continued study at A-State, based on national test scores in the table below:
