Arkansas State University — International Admissions
Study Master of Science in Engineering (M.S.E.) at A-State

The Master of Science in Engineering (MSEngr) program offers an educational experience focused on integrating research and technology development, enabling graduates to successfully provide solutions to society's most challenging engineering problems.

To achieve this goal, the program aims to explore new scientific principles, apply innovative engineering solutions, and develop advanced technology to achieve efficient and sustainable use of resources; to integrate interdisciplinary research and teaching to produce engineering professionals equipped to solve the more complex problems facing our state and country; and to establish and grow industry-university partnerships aimed at fostering and preparing the region for a diverse, knowledge-based economy.

Specific program outcomes are listed below. Graduates of the MSEngr program will have:

  • A solid understanding of statistical concepts and the ability to apply this knowledge to achieve engineering solutions that make the most effective use of information and resources;
  • Practical knowledge of fabrication and manufacturing engineering;
  • The ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts to model physical systems and engineering processes to advance knowledge-based design;
  • An advanced, interdisciplinary understanding of engineering science and the ability to relate physical concepts across multiple engineering disciplines;
  • The ability to identify critical problems, develop practical solutions, evaluate alternative solutions, and conduct independent research to produce new solutions to engineering problems; and
  • A demonstrated ability to make new, significant contributions to the body of scientific and engineering knowledge.

Admission Requirements

Prior degree requirements:

Each applicant must have an undergraduate GPA of at least 2.75 on a 4.00 scale and a bachelor's degree in engineering. Applicants without a bachelor's degree in engineering, such as those with a bachelor's degree in physics or those with an undergraduate GPA below 2.75, will be considered on a case-by-case basis and must demonstrate equivalent experience and training and have completed the necessary prerequisites for the coursework.

GRE score requirement:

Applicants must submit GRE scores for the Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical Writing tests. The combined minimum Verbal and Quantitative Reasoning score must be 300 for the revised GRE test or the equivalent score for the general GRE. Applicants who have not yet completed the GRE may be admitted conditionally but must fulfill this requirement before the end of their first semester of coursework.

Additional information:

Applications are accepted year-round for the following semester, and, in accordance with Graduate Admissions deadlines, will be reviewed based on qualifications and available space. All application materials must be received by the College of Engineering and Computer Science during the semester prior to the student's official enrollment in A-State courses. Official transcripts, two letters of recommendation, a resume, and a statement of purpose (SOP) of no more than three pages are also required for admission. International students need additional proof of English proficiency to meet the Graduate Program's admission requirements.

Accelerated Masters Program

Undergraduate students wishing to be admitted to the Accelerated Master of Science in Engineering program must meet the admission requirements of Graduate Admissions. In addition, applicants must be enrolled in one of the following undergraduate engineering degrees:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering

Application Deadlines

The application deadline is April 1 each year for fall semester enrollment and October 1 each year for spring semester enrollment. Applications are not accepted for summer admission.
