Arkansas State University's "Inter-HOWL-actic" Celebration Set for October

JONESBORO – Arkansas State University (A-State) will hold its Homecoming celebration from September 30 to October 4. This year's Homecoming theme is “Inter-HOWL-actic,” a Mission to Homecoming.

It's time for liftoff, as outer space and the eclipse will be the theme for this year's celebration, with events geared toward students, alumni and the community.

On Friday, October 4, the A-State Alumni Association will celebrate its 100th anniversary. Guests will enjoy an evening with dinner, drinks and a performance by 90s party band Dial Up. This ticketed event will be held at the Cooper Alumni Center.

A free reception for alumni and friends will take place from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, October 5, at the Cooper Alumni Center, featuring food, drinks and activities.

The entire student body will vote to determine the members of the Homecoming Court from 9 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday, September 27. After 5 female members and 5 male members are selected, students will vote again from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, October 3, while the candidates go through an interview before the Homecoming King and Queen are chosen.

The Student Activities Board (SAB) will kick off events starting at 7 p.m. Monday, September 30. SAB invites students to join a cosmic night for Skating Among the Stars, a skating event at the Red WOLF Center until 10 p.m. In addition, the event will feature glow-in-the-dark volleyball, dodgeball and cornhole.

The 10 members of the 2024 A-State Homecoming Court will be introduced during the Skating Among the Stars event.

Starting at 11 a.m. and ending at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1, SAB will partner with Volunteer A-State to host Galaxy Gear on the first floor of the Reng Student Union. Those who bring a non-perishable food item will receive a Homecoming week T-shirt. Those who bring three or more items will receive a T-shirt and a Howl space patch. Donations will go to the A-State Food Bank.

A Celestial Celebration will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, on the Heritage Plaza lawn. Students can "reach for the stars" with a Velcro wall, a UFO-themed laser tag game and a photo booth. Space-themed snacks will be served along with music by DJ King Vick.

The Homecoming King and Queen will be announced during halftime of the Arkansas State Red Wolves game against South Alabama on October 5.

SAB will sponsor one final event before the Red Wolves take the field against the South Alabama Jaguars. "Yell Like Hell: Earth to Mars" will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday, October 4, outside the Red WOLF Center. A concert will take place, along with a photo booth and telescopes, plus food trucks.

More Activities for Alumni

The Class of 1974 will hold its 50th anniversary reunion celebration. Attendees will enjoy a campus tour and a private tour of the Bradbury Art Museum before the celebration on Friday evening to mark the reunion and the Alumni Association's 100th anniversary. The registration deadline to attend the reunion is September 25.

College of Education and Behavioral Science will honor its outstanding alumni from 4 to 6 p.m. on October 4 in the Spring River Room inside the Reng Student Union.

College of Agriculture will hold its fourth annual Furry 5K run on campus starting at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, October 5. Participants are welcome to bring dogs and strollers. Proceeds will benefit Ag for Autism, an organization for children with autism.
